AJSS round #3 is in progress. I have received and worked in Pat's journal, and have my sig prepped and ready to go out. Just waiting on the others to send in for round #1. AJSS #2 is still floating around out there -- will post when it comes home!

ajss - round 1 - returned home

as you can see from the above image, my signature finally returned home from the first round of the AJSS! this is actually the second one i made, as the first one went missing. it's a success all around. i adore the collage and drawn bits, particularly these film strips!

i always love receiving a piece back after it's made it through the hands of a bunch of artists. i think i'll continue working on this one. =D it has some pages that feel sort of empty still!

Pat's journal was mostly early tones with black and gold, so i did something more sketchy for it. this is my favorite of the three pieces, and contains a little memory writing. it's the most like a journal entry.

i was the first person to add work to these (other than the artist who created it), so i'm looking forward to see what others do with them!

the signatures have been making the rounds, and should be coming home soon. below you can see some thumbnails of my own entries into my second sig, to replace the first that was eaten by the gods of mail art, otherwise known as a no send, and an entry into lemur's journal sig.

the journals, though they had a few stalls here and there, are moving along. here's a recent entry i did in mistiko's journal with gesso, pens, tape, adhesive spray, photocopies, watercolor, sharpie, thread, and pencils. a mini zine is sewn into the sketchbook, composed of art from various atcs made in the last couple of months!

Welcome to the Art Journal Signature Swap hosted via Art42!

The call for entry for the swap can be seen, in part, below:

Love art journals? This is the swap for you! No theme, no limits, no apologies, no fear! The idea of this swap is for every artist involved to make a signature (does not need to be bound) of art papers or gessoed papers or any sort of papers, really, and start a few of the pages in an art journal style (which really means anything... images or text or collage).

Once you have made your signature and worked in it, you will send it along to the next person on the list (below you). They will also be sending theirs on. When you receive, you will work in that signature for a little bit, and then send it on. Eventually, you should get your own art journal signature back in your hands, with a little bit of art from everyone. The idea is to host this project a few times, so that it's possible to build of several sets of signatures of work to be bound into handmade artist book!

What does no apologies mean? It means work on anything, even alongside or atop another artist's work. No limits means NO LIMITS! Paint in, draw, collage into, tip art over, copy on acetate and post in with brads.... anything! Record yourself, then photograph it or scan it and post it to: http://artjournalsigs.blogspot.com/

There are seven artists working on this project, and each should have now mailed out their first signature. Watch this space for updates. Happy creating!
